This wonderful old map of Shanghai was originally published in 1935. It was created by Osaka Daily News.
This old map from 1935 depicts the bustling city of Shanghai during a time of great change. Historical landmarks such as the iconic Bund waterfront and the Shanghai Race Club are prominently featured, showcasing the city's blend of Western and Chinese influences.
At the time, Shanghai was a major center of trade and commerce, with foreign powers exerting significant influence over the city. The 1930s saw the rise of the Chinese Nationalist government and the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, which had a profound impact on the city and its inhabitants.
Today, Shanghai is known as a global financial hub and a symbol of China's rapid modernization. The city's rich history and cultural heritage are still evident in its architecture, cuisine, and traditions, making it a fascinating destination for visitors from around the world.
This map looks great at all sizes: 18x12in (46x30.5cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x36in (61x91.5cm), 30x45in (76x114.5cm), 33x50in (84x127cm), 40x60in (102x153cm) and 47x70in (120x178cm), but
it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 130in (330cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for
larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x36in (61x91.5cm) version of this map.

The labels on this map are very small at 12x16in (30.5x41cm). The map is still very attractive, but you may struggle to read the smallest letters. Please buy a larger map if it's important to be able to read the map easily.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of Tokyo by Mohe Subaraya in 1860.
The locations on this map include: Huangpu River, Jing'an, Yangpu District, Pudong, Lujiazui, Zhu Jiang, Yangjing Port, Putuo, Changning District and Nangking.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in Shanghai or someone who is from Shanghai.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
