This old map of the Malay Peninsula was created in 1898 by John van Cuylenburg and Stanford. The map shows the various states and territories that existed at the time, including Johor, Perak, Selangor, and Pahang. The map also highlights important historical landmarks such as the Strait of Malacca, which was a vital trading route for centuries, and the city of Singapore, which was a British colony and major trading port.
In 1898, the Malay Peninsula was undergoing significant changes. The British had established control over most of the region and were working to modernize and develop the area. The map reflects this period of transition, with new roads, railways, and other infrastructure being built.
Today, the Malay Peninsula is known for its diverse culture, stunning natural beauty, and vibrant cities. The region has a rich history and is home to many important landmarks and cultural sites, including the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the historical city of Malacca, and the stunning beaches of Langkawi

The labels on this map are very small at 18x24in (45.5x61cm). The map is still very attractive, but you may struggle to read the smallest letters. Please buy a larger map if it's important to be able to read the map easily.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of the Malay Peninsula by Archibald Fullarton and Co. in 1860.

This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
