This wonderful old map of French Colonial Empire and Imperial Sea Routes was originally published in 1938. It was created by Taride.
This beautiful map, with a French transcript, shows the French Colonial Empire and its sea routes.
This was France's second empire, which began with the conquest of Algiers in the early 19th century. France made its way across Africa, Asia, the West Indies and South America. The French territories at the time are highlighted with the information of each region labelled at the top right of the map.
Today, France still has many overseas territories, such as Saint Martin in the Caribbean, French Polynesia in Oceania and French Guiana in South America.
This map looks great at all sizes: 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x30in (61x76cm), 32x40in (81.5x102cm), 40x50in (102x127cm), 48x60in (122x153cm) and 56x70in (142x178cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 90in (229cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16in (50.8x40.7cm) version of this map.

The labels on this map are very small at 20x16in (50.8x40.7cm). The map is still very attractive, but you may struggle to read the smallest letters. Please buy a larger map if it's important to be able to read the map easily.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of British Empire by Archibald Fullarton and Co. in 1872.
The locations on this map include: Madagascar, French Guiana, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Djibouti, Tunisia, Syria, Corsica, Vietnam and Mali.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in French Colonial Empire and Imperial Sea Routes or someone who has studied the history of the French Empire.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
