This gorgeous pictorial map was originally published in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It was published by the Crosley Broadcasting Company as an accompaniment for viewers and listeners who may have tuned into one of the world's biggest events.
Highly attractive illustrations on and around the map really bring the Coronation to life, with detailed views of important landmarks, the people involved in the Coronation, and even a view of the Gold State Coach.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm), and 24x30 inches (61x76cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 80 inches (203cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map
Please note, the unframed 24x30 inch map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them, they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
If you’re looking for more options, I have another interesting London map by Georg Braun in 1572.
Many of the famous London landmarks and street names are visible on this map, including: St. Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, British Museum, Buckingham Palace, Albert Memorial, Marble Arch, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament.
Surrounding the map are also those in uniform during the ceremony such as Officer of the Royal Navy, the world renowned Grenadier Guardsman, Knight of the Garter and the Archbishop of Canterbury. Curiously there are also detailed illustrations of the Crown Jewels, including the two crowns, orb, and the four swords.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from London or perhaps someone who was present during the momentous occasion.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
