Against a predominantly white ground, the container rises through the centre of the portrait-format design while red and blue lettering establishes a bold sequence above and below it. The poster itself reads “FINE CLOS des BOIS”, with “SUPÉRIEURE” given particular force in red: a compact arrangement that makes the product name, grade and bottle instantly legible.
The design belongs to the interwar culture of commercial print, when posters had to communicate quickly in cafés, shops and public-facing interiors. Rather than constructing an elaborate scene, Myncke relies on scale, chromatic contrast and typographic hierarchy. The approach is practical but far from plain. Red, blue and white give the advertisement a crisp visual identity, while the bottle’s label, ribbon and closure supply the associations of provenance and quality expected of early twentieth-century beverage marketing.
A closer look
The eye first meets the upper lettering, where the words are arranged as a graphic header rather than a conventional line of text. Variations in size and colour prevent the typography from becoming static: the smaller “des” sits between the heavier words around it, and blue accents temper the intensity of the red. The pale background leaves generous areas of open space, allowing both lettering and bottle to retain sharply defined silhouettes.
At the centre, the bottle is treated at a scale that gives it the presence of a figure. Its cylindrical body is punctuated by an ornate label and a round emblem, including a green motif that forms a small but noticeable counterpoint to the dominant red-and-blue palette. Near the neck, a ribbon and metallic-looking closure introduce finer decorative detail. Restrained highlights and a slight suggestion of shadow add volume without disturbing the poster’s essentially flat, graphic character.
The lower portion becomes more informational. “IMPORTATION DIRECTE” appears prominently, followed by the smaller wording “DISTILLERIE RENÉ PIRON JUMET”. These lines ground the large central motif in commercial detail, while blue edging and geometric underlining help organise the transition towards the base. A strong enclosing border further tightens the composition, making the white field feel deliberate rather than empty.

Personalised and customised pieces usually take an extra 1–2 working days, because we prepare your design and send it to you for approval before printing.
Very large framed orders can take a little longer, as they need extra care in production and delivery.
Every order is carefully packaged: unframed prints are sent in a strong protective tube, while framed pieces are securely packed with protective materials around the frame.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.
We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.
Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.
Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.
All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
