Created at a moment when commercial printing was becoming increasingly central to everyday urban visual culture, the poster belongs to an era in which advertisers developed memorable identities through bold type, theatrical characters and readily understood signs of modern life. Here the automobile does more than provide a setting for the bottles: in 1908 it was still a conspicuous emblem of novelty, movement and sociability. The unknown designer draws these associations into the service of the drink, constructing an advertisement that feels less like a formal product announcement than a lively comic episode.
A closer look
The three figures form a compact, animated group across the upper and central portions of the composition. The driver occupies the visual pivot, framed by the steering mechanism and the strong horizontal body of the car. Her white bonnet catches the light, as do those of the women beside her, creating a repeated pale motif across the darker clothing and green surroundings. To the left, the blue-clad passenger poses with one hand at her hip; the woman on the right answers her stance in green, giving the otherwise asymmetrical arrangement a playful sense of balance.
Colour is organised for immediate legibility. Saturated red, blue and green distinguish the women from one another, while the vehicle introduces broad passages of blue and brown. Cream-coloured bonnets and warm skin tones lighten the centre, and the brass lamp at the front of the automobile supplies a small golden accent. Very large framed orders can take a little longer, as they need extra care in production and delivery.
Every order is carefully packaged: unframed prints are sent in a strong protective tube, while framed pieces are securely packed with protective materials around the frame.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.
We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.
Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.
Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.
All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
