Read the full product descriptionWassily Kandinsky’s Klänge Pl. 15 (1913) invites the eye to listen as much as to look. Created at the height of the artist’s Munich years, this plate from his celebrated Klänge (Sounds) series captures Kandinsky’s drive to free art from direct representation and let colour, line, and rhythm convey inner feeling. A Russian-born pioneer of modern abstraction and co-founder of Der Blaue Reiter, Kandinsky was deeply influenced by music and the spiritual potential of art; here, arcs, circles, and darting strokes pulse across a pale field like notes on a staff, anticipating the fully non-objective language that would define his legacy.
This listing offers a meticulously produced fine art print of Klänge Pl. 15, available on museum-grade, acid-free archival paper or richly textured artist’s cotton canvas. Choose from a range of sizes to suit your space, with optional professional framing in classic black, white, or natural wood. The Unique Maps Co. can add tasteful margins, captions, or other small personalization touches on request—perfect for creating a custom statement piece tailored to your home or office.
About the artist: Kandinsky (1866–1944) was instrumental in reshaping 20th‑century art. Active in Munich before World War I and later at the Bauhaus, he championed a visual vocabulary that paralleled music—where harmony, dissonance, and tempo are felt rather than described. His theoretical writings and his work with Der Blaue Reiter circle helped shift European painting toward radical new forms of expression grounded in emotion, intuition, and spiritual inquiry.
Why this artwork matters: Klänge was a landmark project that bridged visual form and poetic sensibility. Plate 15, created on the eve of World War I, finds Kandinsky moving decisively away from recognizable imagery toward a language of autonomous shapes. The composition’s sense of motion—forms orbiting, colliding, and gliding—embodies the series’ title, as if sound itself had become visible. It’s a pivotal moment in the artist’s journey from expressionist figuration to the crystalline clarity of non-objective art.
Color, style, and design: Dominated by lucid blues, energized reds, and lyrical pinks that drift across a pale, almost musical ground, the work sings through contrast and cadence. Crisp, inky lines counterbalance rounded motifs; thick and thin strokes alternate like accents and rests, creating a syncopated rhythm that rewards close viewing. The interplay of saturated primaries with light, breathing space gives the print an airy modernity—equally striking above a mantle in a minimalist interior or anchoring a gallery wall layered with eclectic pieces.
This fine art print makes a thoughtful, cultured gift for Christmas, birthdays, Mother’s or Father’s Day, housewarmings, or as a memorable present for art students and design lovers. For anyone drawn to bold color, modernist clarity, and the idea of “hearing” a painting, Kandinsky’s Klänge Pl. 15 is a timeless conversation piece.
If you're not sure what size to order, or you're looking for a custom order of some kind – a different size, a different colour, a special frame – then please contact me. I usually respond within a few minutes.
You can see an example of my fine art personalisation service in the fifth image. Zoom in and take a look. My personalised artwork is always very well received. Take a look at more examples of personalisation.
You can also choose to age your art print to make it look older. This is popular amongst my customers who want their artwork to look like an older, antique print. You can see an example of ageing in the sixth product image, or go ahead and check out lots of examples of other aged artwork.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x16in (40x40cm) version of this art print.
I can print and frame this beautiful piece of art at sizes up to 3 metres (10ft). If you are looking for a size or framing option that isn't available online, please get in touch.
This artwork is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. My standard frames come in six colours (black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white), and custom framing is available for an additional charge. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
This artwork is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The work is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present an art print without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas art and explore the differences between my different finishes.
