      John James Audubon (1785–1851) was a pioneering naturalist, ornithologist, and painter, celebrated for his exquisite illustrations of North American birds. Born in Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) and raised in France, Audubon emigrated to America at eighteen, where he cultivated a deep fascination with wildlife and nature.
